Asbury Men's Soccer Tabbed KIAC Pre-Season Favorite

BEREA, Ky. - The KIAC coaches have selected Asbury University as the preseason favorite in men’s soccer for the 2012 season, conference officials announced Wednesday, August 15th. The Eagles tied for the top spot in the conference for the third straight year after posting a 3-1 mark in the KIAC.

Asbury received 16 points including four of the five first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Asbury won the Men’s Soccer Tournament Championship last season and finished 14-6-2 overall, their second in three years.  Asbury will return the KIAC Offensive Player of the Year Trent Popp and Defensive Player of the Year Dylan Fouts.

Point Park University joins the KIAC this season and was selected second by the coaches. They received 13 points and one first place vote. Cincinnati Christian was selected third by the coaches with 9 points. Berea and Brescia complete the poll with 7 points and 5 points respectively.

Coach Ben Andrews’ squad will start the season on Monday August 27 with an afternoon match against  Johnson University.
