Popp Named NCCAA Player of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Asbury redshirt-junior Trent Popp has been named NCCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week as announced by association officials on Wednesday. Popp scored four goals and assisted on two others during the Eagle’s two games last week.
Popp recorded his second hat-trick of the season against Ohio State-Mansfield on Saturday. He also recorded both assists in that game, and his eight points tied him for the most for the Eagles since 2005. He would also score the game-winner earlier in the week against Shawnee State, a 2-0 win for the Eagles.
Currently, Popp ranks fifth in the NAIA in game-winning goals, eighth in total goals (18) and 11th in total points (39). His 18 goals are the most for an Eagle since 1981. He also leads the NCCAA in goals, total points and is tied for the lead in goals per game. He ranks third in points per game.
Asbury (12-4-2) have won the most games since the 2005 squad also won 12, and they have captured a share of their third straight KIAC Regular Season title. The Eagles open the KIAC Tournament on Thursday at home against Brescia at 7 p.m.
