Popp Takes KIAC Honors

Trent PoppBEREA, Ky. - Asbury University redshirt-junior Trent Popp was named the KIAC men’s soccer offensive player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, October 10th. This is the second time Popp has been named player of the week this season, the first on September 19th.

Popp provided the heroics against Mt. Saint Joseph, a match Asbury won 2-1, by scoring both goals including the game winner in the 72nd minute to break a 1-1 tie. Popp ranks fourth in the NAIA in game winning goals (5) and became the first Eagle to record double-digit goals in a season since 2002 when Mikael Nielsen and Chris Fanta each scored 11.  With six regular season games remaining Popp could become the first player to score more than 11 in a season since 1985.  The single season record for goals is 21 set in 1981 by Steve Bodden.

Asbury has an overall record of 8-2-2 and a conference record of 2-0. They will return to action on October 11th when they travel to Cincinnati Christian University.
