Eagles Take Down Bears
WILMORE, Ky. – For the first time in almost a month Asbury’s (11-4-2) men put together two consecutive wins as they defeated Shawnee State (8-8-1) 2-0 on Tuesday evening. The Eagles had split their previous six games after starting the year 7-1-2.
Trent Popp scored his 15th goal of the season in the 27th minute, tying him for the most goals by an Eagle since 1985. Popp created space after a corner kick by beating one defender and then fired a bullet past keeper Kevin Fischer. His 15 goals tie him for the most by a KIAC player since 2007 with Drew Roberts from Cincinnati Christian who scored 15 in 2008. It was Popp’s sixth game-winner putting him in a tie for third place in the NAIA.
Garrett Davis added his fifth goal of his freshman season in the 50th minute as he knocked home a rebound off a free kick from Adam Howard. Davis sits in third place on the team with those five goals this season.
Dylan Fouts made only three saves on the night but managed to record his sixth shutout on the season and second straight. His goals allowed average is 1.16 and currently leads the KIAC. Fouts has recorded 12 shutouts in his career.
Asbury will close out their regular season on Saturday during Homecoming and Senior Night as they host Ohio State-Mansfield at 7 p.m. Senior Night activities will be held prior to game time.
