Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season

HANOVER, Ind. – For the first time in 2011 the men’s soccer team will have to look to rebound after a defeat, as they were handed their first loss of the season by Hanover 1-0 on Tuesday evening.  The Eagles snap a seven game unbeaten streak in the process.

Asbury had the advantage on shots, taking 28 to Hanover’s 10 but Hanover had the only shot that mattered most, a 74th minute free kick that was chipped in by Matt Flora.  Keeper Dylan Fouts made eight saves in goal for the Eagles (5-1-2) and Hanover’s duo of Ryan Marks and Trevor Korfhagen made 16 saves.

The Eagles also had the advantage on corner kicks, taking all nine in the game.  Zach Welch took a team-high eight shots in the game and put four on frame.  Jonathan Rehner also put four of his five on target for the night, but would be sent off the field in 84th minute after picking up his second yellow card of the night.  He will miss the KIAC opener next Tuesday as part of a mandatory one-game suspension.

Asbury will have a week to collect themselves before facing another team as they head down to Owensboro next Tuesday to open up KIAC play against Brescia.
