Moberley, Smith Take KIAC Honors
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury men’s soccer player Ryan Moberley and women’s soccer player Bre Smith were named KIAC Offensive Players of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Both Moberley and Smith scored game-winners during the week.
Moberley (Nicholasville, Ky.) scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over St. Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday. He made a run into the box just before halftime and was able to deflect the ball past the keeper. That is the only goal on the season so far for Moberley who scored twice last year as a freshman. The Eagles remain unbeaten on the year at 3-0-2 and travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Smith (Shelbyville, Ky.) also connected on the game-winning goal this week for the women’s side as the Eagles rallied to beat Covenant on Saturday 2-1. Smith scored off a rebound in the 81st minute after Asbury had allowed the equalizer less than ten minutes before. Asbury has now won three straight after dropping their first two and will be in action again on Wednesday at Campbellsville for a 7 p.m. start.
