Men's Soccer Qualification Announced
WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men’s soccer program now knows what it will take this year to make their first NAIA National Tournament. The Eagles and the rest of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has been paired with the America Mideast Conference and Talladega College in an Unaffiliated Grouping. The winner of the group will move to the NAIA Opening Round to be held on November 19th.
The group will play one game at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio on November 12th, with one representative from the AMC and one from the KIAC. Talladega will compete in the KIAC Tournament, and are the only member of the Gulf Coast Conference to sponsor men’s soccer.
The grouping is necessary due to the fact that neither the AMC, KIAC or the Gulf Coast Conference has the mandatory six members to gain direct qualification to the national tournament. Last year the KIAC had to have their champion rated in the Top-25 at season’s end to get a bid. In 2009, Asbury won the KIAC and had to travel to the University of Mobile for a one game playoff as the KIAC was paired with the Gulf Coast Conference.
Asbury’s first match will be Friday, August 26th at 7 p.m. as they host Ohio Christian.
