Eagles Streak Stops at the Hands of Union
WILMORE, Ky. – The Eagles could not keep an early lead as Union rallied for a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon, ending Asbury's four game unbeaten streak. Asbury scored in the 4th minute to take an early 1-0 lead but Union scored twice before the 15 minute mark to take the lead for good.
Jonathan Rehner got free inside the box off a free kick from near mid-field. Rehner’s shot was deflected in the air by Union’s keeper Rainer Hauss and that’s when Trent Popp jumped in to head the ball in the right corner of the goal.
The Bulldogs would take the lead on a free kick of their own. Deep in their own territory the Bulldogs played a free kick all the way through the Eagles’ defense that Guilhereme Reis was able to corral and score in the 15th minute. Union’s first goal came in the 9th minute as Diego Santos turned in the box off a pass from Reis and buried into the net.
The Eagles would create their own opportunities late as Asbury out-shot Union eight to three in the second half. Trent Popp had a chance in the 68th minute but Hauss came up with a great save, Jonathan Rehner’s rebound was again saved by Hauss. Hauss made six saves in the match. Trent Popp led the Eagles with six shots and put four on target.
Asbury will take on Cincinnati Christian University on Wednesday October 20th at 7:00 pm in a pivotal KIAC match.
