Cougars Topple Eagles

Wilmore, KY – Different day much different result for the Asbury men’s soccer team’s home opener.  The Eagles lost to Mid-Continent 2-0 on Wednesday after Tuesday’s regularly scheduled game was postponed with Asbury leading 2-1 in the 56th minute.  The game must reach the 70 minute mark or be replayed in its entirety.

On this day Asbury (0-3) struggled to build their offensive attack, turning the ball over in the mid-field and lacking many goal scoring opportunities.  Their best chance came in the 61st minute with Trent Popp’s left footed strike hit the post.  Asbury registered only shots in the game and 0 on goal.

Mid-Continent (2-2-1) scored both of their goals in the first 20 minutes as Matt Kreutzer and Keane Bennett found the back of the net.  The Cougars fired off 23 shots in the match and put 10 on goal.  Dylan Fouts made eight saves for the Eagles.

Both teams looked like complete opposites from the day before as Mid-Continent dictated the pace and style of the game and Asbury was forced to chase.  A day earlier the Eagles were able to find their rhythm and create goal scoring chances but were unable to duplicate that on this day.

The Eagles will next be in action on Saturday September 11th when they host Bryan College at 2:30 pm.
