Cumberlands Tops Eagles with Second Half Goal

Wilmore, Ky. - The Eagles came up just short against #25 University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday night, falling 1-0 on a goal in the 62nd minute.  Asbury drops to 1-6 overall while the Patriots improve to 4-1.

Asbury's threatened more than the stats would show, only getting four shots off and none on frame, but were in behind Cumberlands back line on several occasions.  The Eagles sent balls over top of forwards Trent Popp, Jonathan Rehner, and Evan Duszynski and let them run to them with a fair amount of success.  Once the forwards got the ball they had no one to play it to and forced to try to keep possession or work for a shot.  On the occasions they could play a cross they were always just off the mark.

Trent Popp and John Greer had the best chances in the second half with balls played over top and through the defense.  Popp was unable to get a shot off as he was forced out wide and Greer couldn't catch up to the ball after his first touch.

Cumberlands goal came in the 62nd minute off a free kick, Bruno Souza sent the ball into the box from deep on the right side and Kevin Murphy slide it past Dylan Fouts.  Fouts was making his first start of the season in goal after playing only 45 minutes all season, he made six saves.

Asbury will kick-off KIAC action on Saturday at home as they host Brescia at 7:00 pm.
