Champs Too Much For Eagles
Dayton, Tenn. - The #1 team in NAIA and defending National Champion Bethel College (TN) were too much as the Asbury men's soccer team fell 7-1 on Saturday night at the Bryan College Classic.
Bethel wasted very little time scoring in the 3rd minute but the Eagles fought back and tied it 1-1 when junior Jonathan Lewis scored the first goal of the season for Asbury. The defending champs would then flex their muscle scoring in the 17th, 19th, 27th, and 31st minutes to take a 5-1 halftime lead. They would add two more in the 70th and 72nd minutes.
Freshmen keeper Travis Jones was peppered all night long with shots from Bethel, stopping nine despite allowing seven goals. Overall Bethel took 31 total shots compared to only six for Asbury.
The Eagles finally come home on Tuesday September 8th to host Hanover College at 7:00pm. They will play in another classic this coming weekend September 11th and 12th against Berry College and Wilmington College at the Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Centre College.
