Berry Drops Eagles 4-0
Danville, Ky. - Asbury's men failed to build upon Tuesday's win over Hanover, falling to Berry College (Ga.) 4-0 in the Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Centre College.
The Eagles had their chances early as they controlled the ball and made the Berry defense sweat. Trent Popp had maybe the best chance early firing a shot wide right from right outside the 18-yard box. The Eagles would earn five corners in the early going but each time failed to put a shot on goal.
Failing to capitalize on early opportunities would cost the Eagles as Berry leaked out on a counter attack after a free kick for their first goal. From that point on Berry would seize momentum and dictate the pace of the first half. Berry would add two more first half goals that put them in a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.
The Eagles would come back in the second half with the same aggressiveness they had to start the game, but had limited chances to score. Coach Oakley sat several starters in the second half including keeper Travis Jones and starting defender Jonathan Lewis. Dylan Fouts (Lexington, Ky.) played well in his first action of the season, showing off a big leg on both goal kicks and punts.
Asbury will play game two in the Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Centre College as they battle Wilmington College (Ohio) tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
