Eagles Lose Late

Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College men's soccer team dropped a tough match to Mid-Continent University 1-0 on Tuesday night. Asbury has now lost four in a row for the first time all season.

Asbury (4-9-1) suffered their second 1-0 loss in three games. Both games saw the opposing team score with less than ten minutes on the clock. Tuesday night Wayne McCarron scored in the 85th minute to lead the Cougars to victory.

Eckert scored the only two goals on the weekend trip to West Virginia and Tennessee.

Asbury had their chances, especially late but Cougar keeper David Etale came up with save after save to earn the shutout. Asbury had four chances inside the final ten minutes. Seth Eckert couldn't find the net on a breakaway, Phillip Mullins almost hooked a corner in, another corner was saved after a header, Jonathan Lewis' direct kick with 20 seconds left was knocked out of bounds. Both keepers kept coming up with remarkable save after remarkable save late in the game.

Asbury Keeper had nine saves in the match and Etale eight. The Eagles had 15 total shots and eight on goal, while the Cougars had 17 total and ten on goal.

Asbury played twice on the weekend, falling to Mountain State 1-0 and King College 4-2. Seth Eckert scored both goals against King for the Eagles. The loss to Mountain State gives the Cougars the regular season conference title and means they will host the tournament November 7th and 8th. The tournament will be played at Bluefield College.

Asbury will host Union University Thursday October 23rd at 5pm. Senior Night will be Tuesday October 28th against Campbellsville at 7pm.
