Men's Soccer Fights to a Draw

Wilmore, KY—90 minutes and two overtimes were not enough to decide a victor Saturday, September 13 for Asbury College and Bryan College. The Eagles and Lions battled to a 1-1 draw.

msoc-ac-bryan-web.gifBryan (5-0-1) scored the first goal of the match in the 20th minute when Raphael Correa connected off a cross from Carlos da Silva. Asbury junior keeper Logan Faulkner tried desperately to keep the ball from crossing the line but came up just short.

Asbury (1-3-1) answered quickly. In the 23rd minute, Harrison Creech lined one up from 30 yards out and put it in the top left corner past keeper Rodrigo Pigatto for his second goal of the season.

The Eagles would have the best chance in overtime when Bryan keeper Pigatto would be sent off with a red card in the 101st minute for pushing Asbury junior defender Brent McGee. Asbury could not take advantage of the man advantage and backup Josh Courtright came up with two big saves in the final 9 minutes.

Logan Faulkner came up with 11 total saves in goal as Asbury was out shot 32-16. Several times Faulkner saved a sure goal on corner kicks with athletic plays in goal.

A very physical game from both sides as there were 33 total fouls, 20 from Bryan and 13 from Asbury. There were also eight cards in all, with sophomore defender Jonathan Lewis and McGee picking up the only cards for the Eagles, both were yellows.
Asbury's next match will be Wednesday, September 17 at home against Montreat. Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m. with the women following at 7p.m.
