Eagles fall to #16 Montreat

Wilmore, KY--- The Asbury College men's soccer team struck early but ultimately fell to #16 Montreat College 2-1 Wednesday September 17.  Sophomore defender Jonathan Lewis scored in the 5th minute off a direct kick from 55 yards out to put the Eagles ahead early.  Montreat keeper Howard Fisher misplayed the hop and the ball bounced over his outstretched hands for Lewis' first goal of the season.

That goal seemed to fire up the Cavaliers as they picked up their offensive attack.  In the 25th minute Montreat would score two goals within 30 seconds of each other to take the lead for good.  Adnan Bangura and Sami Bin scored the two goals for Montreat, each of them coming from six yards out as the Cavalier assualt infiltrated the Eagle defense.

Asbury (1-4-1) was out shot 35-7 in the match, Montreat controlled the pace and possession from start to finish.  The Eagles would make a let run at an equalizer with pressure on the Cavalier back line, but just couldn't put one in the net.  Junior keeper Logan Faulkner came up with nine saves as he played extremely well in goal.

The Eagles will hit the road on Tuesday September 23rd, as they will take on Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky at 4pm.  Asbury will come home to play confernce opponent Brescia University Saturday September 27th at 7pm.
