Eagles suffer a tough weekend

The Labor Day holiday weekend will be one to forget for Asbury's women's soccer team this year as they dropped a pair of decisions to drop their overall record to 1-2 on the young, 2007 season. The disappointment began on Friday night against Hanover (Ind.) in a 2-0 loss, despite the Eagles controlling play with 23 shots, seven on goal versus nine shots for Hanover, seven on goal.
Hanover struck early in the 3rd minute of the game on a goal by Lauren Drew to put Asbury in a quick hole. The Panthers would add another goal in the 31st minute to take a 2-0 lead to the half. Despite a barrage of Asbury shots, led by sophomore Miranda Wiley launching seven herself, the Panthers were able to maintain a clean sheet for the 2-0 win.
Things didn't get better on Saturday as the Eagles traveled to Cincinnati to take on Thomas More (Ky.) at Xavier University's field. Brittany Yeggy would record her second hat trick of her career, leading Thomas More to the 4-2 win over Asbury. Yeggy scored the first two goals of the game before Asbury got on the board with a goal from freshman Katie Crocker, her second on the year. Senior Abby Greer provided the assist. The 2-1 margin at halftime turned into the final score thanks to Thomas More goals by Kristen Leininger and Yeggy's third goal. Freshman Jennifer Mendelson added her third goal of the year to finish the scoring for the evening. With the pair of losses, Asbury now stands at 1-2 on the year. The Eagles will get a pair of home games under the lights this week against Oakland City on Thursday (Sept. 6th) and Bryan (Tenn.) College on Saturday, September 8th. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m
