Asbury dropped a 3-1 decision on Saturday to visiting Mountain State (W. Va.) to start their 2007 season. The loss also handed the Eagles their first conference setback with the Cougars from Beckley, West Virginia coming into the conference just this season.

The men started strong out of the gate, scoring in the 12th minute from freshman Danny Winklepleck. Staked to a 1-0 lead and controlling early play, the Eagles were stunned by a free kick just outside the penalty box by Cougar forward, Ali Katrib.

The teams would carry the 1-1 tie into the locker rooms before Katrib would score again on a corner kick in the 52nd minute. Mountain State would add its last goal of the day by Charlot Nacius, providing the 3-1 result.

"We simply allowed too many mistakes today in order to win the game," said Asbury head coach Josh Oakley.

When glancing at the box score the Eagles controlled play with 13 shots compared to five by Mountain State, with six of the Asbury shots coming on goal. The Eagles also registered seven corner kicks to Mountain State's three.

The men return to action on Friday, August 31st against Hanover (Ind.) College at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
