Men's Soccer signs two for 2007-08
Jonathan Lewis and Danny Winklepleck signed with the Asbury College men's soccer program for the 2007-08 season according to Head Coach Josh Oakley.
Lewis is a 6'2" defender from Rome (Ga.) High School. The team finished 10th in the state with a 15-5 record in 2006-07.
"Jonathan is a tall, defensive-minded player who will help shore up our defense. He has great composure and touch with the ball able to start our attack from the defensive side of the field," said Oakley. "I would compare him to current assistant coach, Ben Andrews." Andrews was a former All-American for Asbury who played midfield, forward and defense during his career.
Danny Winklepleck is a 5'7" signee out of Deltona (Fla.) High School. He is projected to break in at the forward position after capturing the 2006 Orlando Sentinel Central Florida Defensive Player of the Year. Winklepleck made the switch after scoring 12 goals for Deltona during the 2004-05 season.
"Having spent two years as an NCAA Division I assistant at Eastern Illinois, I know Danny would be a prize recruit on that level, so he is a stellar recruit for us at Asbury," said Oakley. "He is a complete player who can score and create goals with his speed and ballhandling skills, all attributes that will carry this program into uncharted territory."
