Brooks Wraps Up Play in Oregon
SALEM, Ore. – Asbury golfer Steven Brooks wrapped up play at the NAIA National Championships with a third round 85, missing the cut at Creekside Golf Club in the 62nd annual event. Brooks is the first player from AU to attend the event since golf was reinstated for the 2010-11 season.
After posting a one-over 73 on day one Brooks’ scores fell in each of the next two days, to 76 (+4) on day two where he was tied for 32nd and eventually to an 85 (+13) on the final day, moving him into a tie for 92nd. After only two double bogeys in the first 36 holes, Brooks suffered four and a triple bogey on the final day. He also had two pars on Thursday including the 2nd hole to finish one-under on the hole for the week. He also finished one-under on numbers 9 and 16.
Sondre Ronold from Oklahoma City and Aaron Flores from Our Lady of the Lake lead the 154-man field at four-under. Oklahoma City continues to pace the field by 16-strokes with a three day score of 857 (280-288-289).
The field was cut after Thursday’s third round with 17 teams and the top 40 individuals making the cut. KIAC champions Point Park finished 22nd with a score of 935 (309-310-316). Billy Wivell led the team with a 232 (79-77-76) and finished tied for 82nd.
