Golf Finshes Play at Don Bishop Invitational

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Asbury’s women’s golf team finished sixth while the men placed 12th in the Don Bishop Invitational hosted by Campbellsville University at the Campbellsville Country Club over the past two days. The women’s field featured eight teams and 46 players while the men had 12 teams and 77 total individuals.
Amanda Smith was the highest finisher on the women’s side for Asbury’s women, placing 20th with a score of 172 (87-85). Kate Legge from Cumberland (Tenn.) won the tournament by seven strokes with a five-over 149 (76-73) Cumberland took the team title as well by 31 shots with a 625. Asbury shot a 740.
Madison Combs posted the season-low for the Eagles through four rounds with an 82 on the second day. She finished in a tie for 24th after posting a 177. Asbury’s team total of 362 in round two was the lowest of the season.
On the men’s side Steven Brooks again led the team with a 157 (80-77), just one shot better than Zach Lemons (82-76). Three of the four best individual rounds for the men came on Tuesday as Brooks and Jordan Woods shot 77 and Lemons posted a 76. Brooks finished the tournament 39th and Lemons was in a tie for 40th.
The team score of 313 on Tuesday was the lowest round of the season but a 332 on Monday put the Eagles in a tough spot. Cumberlands (Ky.) won the event with a 578, just one stroke better than Lindsey Wilson. Trey Shirley from Campbellsville won the event with a nine-under 135 (70-65).
The men will be off until the Asbury Fall Invite in October while the women will head to Transylvania University for a one day tournament on September 26.
