Brooks' Second Day Par Leads Eagles
LONDON, Ky. – Steven Brooks wrapped up his first competition for the Asbury golf team with a seven over 151 (79-72) as the Eagles placed 12th out of 15 teams in the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek. Asbury was 11th after the first day but slid back to 12th as St. Catharine made up a six shot deficit to edge the Eagles by one stroke.
The event was hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.) and the Patriots fired a 284 on the second day to win the 36-hole event by nine strokes over Lee University. Cumberlands totaled a 578, two over for the tournament. Taylor Davis from Lee and Alastair Tidcombe both shot five-under 139 for the tournament.
Brooks finished in a tie for 24th place with five other golfers after shooting a par 72 on the second day. Brooks had five birdies including two to start the day as he went off on hole six. Daniel Gibbons provided consistency for the Eagles, shooting a 161 (81-80) to turn in the second best score for Asbury. Zach Lemons shot a 166 and Jordan Wood and Luke Rose shot 170 and 171. Rose was tied with Brooks for the team lead after day one.
The Eagles will head to Campbellsville for their next tournament on September 17-18.
