Carter Named Men's and Women's Golf Coach

WILMORE, Ky. – John Carter has been named Asbury’s new men’s and women’s golf coach as announced by Athletics Director Mark Perdue.  Carter replaces Steve Rehner who served as coach of both programs for the first two years of competition.

Carter played golf for three years at King College in Bristol, Tenn. and was named team captain during two of those years.  After graduating from King, Carter moved on to the U.S. Air Force, serving as an Arab Linguist for three years.

“I love Asbury because we have a desire to develop holistic Christian athletes,” Carter said.  “I hope to establish the foundation for a program that will nurture our golfers in four main areas: spiritual growth, academic achievement, service and stewardship and excellence in golf!”

After leaving the Air Force he moved to Wilmore to attend Asbury Theological Seminary.  After completing a Masters of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Carter has been hired at Asbury University as the Admissions and Marketing Coordinator for the Graduate Education Department.

Throughout his life Carter has been in and around golf, working at a number of courses from high school through seminary.  He has worked as a golf pro, assistant grounds keeper, grounds crew superintendent and a caddy.  He most recently worked at Planter’s Row Golf Course in Nicholasville as the golf pro while attending seminary.

Carter is married to his wife, Katie, and has two children, James who is six and Nora who is 17 months old.
