Golf Takes CCU Title at Whitewater
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Asbury men’s golf came storming back from a 10-stroke deficit after the first round of the Cincinnati Christian Invitational at Whitewater Golf Course to win over Cincinnati Christian in a playoff.
The Eagles shot a day-best 322 on Friday, six shots lower than their first round score as CCU shot a second round 332, 14 shots worse than Thursday’s round. Asbury was paced by Daniel Gibbons and his second round low 77. Gibbons finished fourth in the tournament with a two day total of 161 (84-77).
Asbury won the playoff hole by three strokes as the top four golfers for both teams played the final hole, the total team score determining the winner.
Zach Lemons started the second round one stroke off the lead after a first day 77 and finished the tournament in third place after an 83 on the second day for a 36-hole total of 160. Kyle Pollock from CCU and Joey Smart from Indiana East started Friday in a tie after both shot a 76 on day one. Pollock came out on top by one stroke, shooting an 82 on Friday while Smart shot an 83.
Asbury's Zach Burr and Brooks Toole were top-10 finishers as Toole finished in a tie for6th (83-81-164) and Burr finished tied for 9th (84-81-165).
Asbury will see all five teams that were in attendance this weekend plus Brescia at the KIAC Championships set for Prestonsburg, Ky. and Stonecrest Golf Course next weekend.
