Lemons, Eagles Take 2nd at IUE Invitational

RICHMOND, Ind. – The men nearly captured their first golf tournament championship, finishing ten strokes behind Brescia on Friday at the Indiana University East Red Wolves Spring Invitational.  Asbury’s 318 was one shot better than Cincinnati Christian and two better than IUE.  Brescia won with a 308.

Zach Lemons was the nine-hold leader after posting a 35, but a 40 on the back left him in a four-way tie for second.  Lemons was one back heading to 18 but a double-bogey erased any chance to tie Garrett Veal from Brescia who shot 72.

Ben Wheatley shot a 78 and finished eighth while Daniel Gibbons posted an 80 and was tied for tenth.  Wheatley and Gibbons also struggled on the back-nine after posting scores of 36 and 38 on the front.

The Eagles will head to Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Christian Invitational on Thursday and Friday.  Play begins at 12:00 pm and 9:00 am.  Asbury will host their spring invitational on Monday and Tuesday April 18th and 19th at Golf Club of the Bluegrass before finishing the season at the KIAC Tournament on April 28th and 29th.
