Ward Takes 1st, Eagles Beat Berea

BEREA, Ky. – Adam Ward won medalist honors and the Eagles defeated Berea College in their final tournament of the fall at the Berea Country Club on Saturday.  Asbury’s team score of 310 was 24 strokes better than last weekend’s at Centre, Berea shot a 350 on Saturday.

Ward shot a 73 on the day, one over par to win medalist honors as the best score of the day.  Ward shot a one under 35 on the front and finished with a 38 on the back.  The 73 is the best score recorded by an Eagle, and he becomes the first medalist as well.

Two other Eagles were in the 70’s, Asbury had only one golfer shoot in the 70’s in the first two tournaments combined.  Zach Burr and Zach Lemons recorded a 77 and 78 respectively, Daniel Gibbons shot an 82.  Ben Wheatley shot a 93.

Asbury was able to send a second team on the course, and their team score of 355 was only five strokes behind Berea.  Dan McPherson led the second squad with an 82 and Hagan Southworth was right behind him with an 83.  Kaiser DeKam shot an 86 and Franklin McFadden finished with a 104.

The Eagles will tee-off again in the spring for the championship portion of their season.  The schedule will be released as soon as it’s been finalized.
