Diehl, Falkenberg Pace Eagles Again
MIDWAY, Ky. - This past Saturday the cross country team participated in their last race of the year which leads up to the possibly most important meet of the year—the conference meet. The meet was held at Midway College and was against many of the teams the Eagles will be competing with in the KIAC Championships.
On what turned out to be an unseasonably brisk and windy day for mid-October, the Eagles teams pushed through for some solid performances.
The women’s team was led once again by freshman Katy Falkenberg with a time of 20:39—who also missed the individual win by just three seconds. Closely behind her was junior Justine Vonderheide, who finished in fifth place with a time of 21:04. Other runners that gave points to the team were Devon Zweifel, Kim Miller, Christina Williams, Sarah Moe, and Julia Chin. As a team, the women finished behind Brescia for a second place finish.
The men’s team’s Taylor Diehl led the way for the Eagles, as had been the case all season. He finished with a time of 28:50. Shortly behind him, freshman Caleb Woodward turned in one of his best performances of the season with a time of 29:03. Other runners that gave points to the team were Isaac Harrison, Mason Lambert, David Smith, Miller Jarrell, and Joshua Lusk. From these times the men came in third.
The men and women team ran a good solid race. The final race of the season is also the biggest and most important of the season. The teams will compete in the KIAC Meet for a chance to head to Nationals. The meet is scheduled for November 9th at 10 a.m. at Midway College.
The teams wore pink in the race on Saturday in support of Breast Cancer awareness month. The picture below was taken before the race.
