Falkenberg and Vonderheide Lead Women to Victory, Men Place 6th
BEREA, Ky. - Saturday marked the third meet for Asbury’s Cross Country team for the 2013 season and was one that met somewhat unusual conditions for competitors. Saturday's event took place in the rain, and the course required competitors to run through a creek during unseasonably cool temperatures for a mid-September day. Even with the unusual conditions, the team perservered and turned in a strong outing nonetheless.
The women's champ for the entire race was freshman Katy Falkenberg with a time of 20:07, and shortly behind her was Justine Vonderheide, who came in third overall with a time of 20:30. Women who also provided points toward the overall score were Christian Williams, Devon Zweifel, Kim Miller, Dria Stallings, and Julia Chin.
The women ran a strong enough race to finish first overall in the meet for their first team win of the season. Falkenberg took home her second individual trophy in just three races this season.
The first finisher on the men's side, in the 8k race, was junior Taylor Diehl with a time of 28:39. Senior Isaac Harrison came in second for the team with a time of 29:40. Men who also received points toward the team tally were Caleb Woodard, Mason Lambert, David Smith, Josh Lusk, and Miller Jarrell. The men finished in sixth overall.
The team will compete next at the Greater Louisville Classic on October 5.
