Cross Country Takes Late Knight Run

Caleb MootispawGRAYSON, Ky. – Asbury’s men’s and women’s cross country teams won the final regular season meet of the season on Friday, taking the Late Knight’s Run hosted by Kentucky Christian.  This is the second straight year the women have won this race and this is also the second race won of this season for the ladies.

In addition to winning the team event the Eagles were the first to cross in both the men’s and women’s race.  Kim Miller continues to lead the women, winning the 2.99 mile race in 19:19.  Just nine seconds behind her was teammate Christina Williams.  Asbury took the top four spots as Justine Vonderheide and Sarah Moe followed Williams.  Julia Chin and Beth Crist rounded out the six Eagles in the top 10 with a seventh and tenth place finish.

On the men’s side it was another freshman in Caleb Mootispaw taking the individual title.  Mootispaw finished the 4.68 mile race in 17:18, a cool 15 seconds ahead of teammate Todd Yoder who finished second.  The Eagles finished with seven in the top 10 as five Eagles finished six thru 10.  Brennan Kizziar took sixth followed by Seth Hayes, Taylor Diehl, David Smith and Eric Sanders.

Asbury will be in action next weekend as they run for the KIAC Championship in Richmond, Ind.  This year’s race will be hosted by Indiana East.  The top team and the top five finishers from outside the top team will all qualify for the NAIA National Championships on November 17 in Vancouver, Wash.
