Gruver, Moe Qualify for NAIA Nationals

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Asbury had two cross country runners qualify for NAIA Nationals in two weeks as the women took second and the men fifth in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Meet on Saturday.  Freshman Devon Gruver and sophomore Sarah Moe will run at the NAIA Meet in Vancouver, Washington on November 19th.

Gruver took second in the race, just two hundredths of a second behind Jasmine Pulliam from Brescia who posted a 10:10.31.  Brescia would win the meet with 34 points, including placing three runners in the top five.  The Eagles would take second, just eight points behind the Bearcats. 

Moe would place eighth overall and took the final spot into the national meet with a time of 20:51.79, just two seconds ahead of teammate Christina Williams.  Moe ran in the national meet last year as a freshman.  The winning team the top five runners from every other team qualify for the national meet.  Asbury’s Justine Wonderheide and Dria Stallings would place 11th and 12th in the race.

The men would take fifth place in the race as senior Tyler Zweifel placed 19th with a time of 28:52.60.  Freshman Taylor Diehl would place 25th as the Eagles ran without two time national qualifier Jarred Brewster.

Both the men and the women will travel to Cedarville, Ohio for the NCCAA National Meet on Saturday, November 12th.
