Cross Country Men First, Women Second in Tennessee

Gray, Tenn. - Asbury's cross country team finished their regular season strongly at the 37th Annual Trailblazer Invitational hosted by Daniel Boone High School.  The men finished first out of three teams and the women second of three.

The men finished tied in points with Milligan College with 36 but had a better total team time and better average time.  Leading the way for the men was freshman Jarred Brewster (Nicholasville, Ky.), who finished second with a time of 27:42 in the 8K race.  Josiah Callicott (5th) and Tyler Zweifel (9th) each placed in the top 10 for the first time this season.  This is the fourth time Brewster has placed in the top  10 and second time he finished second, the other was the 5K A-J Special at Asbury.  Brian Troyer and Austin Powell also score for the Eagles placing 13th and 14th in the 28 man field. 

The women were led by Maddi Ury's 10th place finish and time of 23:13 in the women's 5K race.  The Eagle runners finished in a bunch with Sally Schmachtenberger 13th, Beth Crist 15th, Leah Curry 16th, and Katie Liversedge 18th.  Ury has two top 10 finishes this season with the other coming in the A-J Special back to begin the season, Ury finished 5th in that race. 

All 10 runners that scored on Saturday will return to the program next season with five of them being only freshmen.  There are two sophomores and three juniors in the mix as well as Coach Randy Crist starts to rebuild the program.

Asbury will travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the KIAC/Mid-South Conference race on November 6th.
