No. 2 IU-Southeast Grounds Men's Basketball, 93-70
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Eagles, plagued by poor shooting and turnovers, couldn’t find to way to hang around down the stretch in what turned out to be a lopsided win for the host Grenadiers in another KIAC matchup for both teams Tuesday night.
The Eagles (13-6, 6-3) found themselves with the lead at 34-32 with eight minutes left to play in the first half, but in the end the no. 2 ranked Grenadiers (15-3, 9-0) pulled away, ending the half with an 11-point lead. They would extend their lead to 17 before the Eagles scored their first points of the half just two minutes into the second frame.
From there the Eagles would keep pace with the scoring from the hosts but couldn’t find enough offense to cut into the IUS lead.
The Eagles got another double-double performance from CJ Penny—his 12th on the season and seventh straight—who had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lee’Vaughn Morris scored 15 points to lead the Eagles in scoring.
The Grenadiers were led by Kevin Mitchell’s game-high 18 points.
Asbury just couldn’t get it going in the offensive end, shooting just 31.8% from the field, 30.0% from deep, and 56.3% at the charity stripe over the course of the game. Compare that to IUS’ 47.2% from the field and add in 15 AU turnovers and it amounts to the 23-point loss.
The Eagles will shift their focus to their next game, with another road stop in Indiana against IU-East on Friday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
