Eagles Balance Key to Dominant Win Over Alice Lloyd
WILMORE, Ky. – Dakotah Euton led a balanced attack as Asbury easily defeated Alice Lloyd 82-63 on Thursday night. Euton scored 13 of his game-high 16 points in the first half and knocked down 4-of-5 three-pointers in the game. The Eagles have won two straight and move above .500 in the KIAC at 4-3.
Asbury (13-9, 4-3 KIAC) shot 56-percent in the first half and made 7-of-11 from long range to build a 50-27 lead at halftime. This is the second straight game where the Eagles have used the first half to build a lead that proved to be insurmountable by the opposition. The Eagles shot only 39-percent in the second half.
Mitch McLeish led the AU bench with 14 points, making 8-of-10 from the free throw line. The bench scored 35 points as Marquel Johnson added 10 points including hitting two threes. CJ Penny, who started, scored 15 points. Alice Lloyd (9-13, 2-7 KIAC) was led by Tyler Rogers’ 15 points.
Both teams grabbed 37 rebounds, the Eagles led by Penny’s six. Ten different players grabbed a rebound for the Eagles and nine scored. Asbury has been led in scoring by a different player in four straight games. Lee’Vaughn Morris led all players with six assists.
Asbury has defeated Alice Lloyd in all five meetings in the Luce Center under Shouse and holds an 8-2 mark overall during that span. They will close out the season series in Pippa Passes on February 7.
The win moves the Eagles into sole possession of fourth-place in the KIAC a half-game behind IU East at 4-2 and one and a half behind Berea at 5-1. IU Southeast continues to lead the conference at 8-0 and have moved to 11th in the NAIA II poll. The Eagles still have one meeting with each of the three teams in front of them.
Asbury will travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on St. Louis Pharmacy on Saturday. The Eutectics are currently 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the KIAC.
