Colonels Clip Eagles
DANVILLE, Ky. – Asbury shot only 34 percent in a 66-59 loss to Centre College on Wednesday night. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Eagles.
The Eagles (5-2) couldn’t find the touch in the first half, shooting a woeful 23 percent from the floor and making only 3-of-11 from beyond the arc. The shooting improved in the second half, hitting 45 percent from the floor and 4-of-9 from long range but a 35-23 halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Asbury only turned the ball over seven times in the game compared to 18 for Centre.
Adam Delph scored 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting to lead the Eagles. Delph added four rebounds and three assists. Justin Jones was also in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds. Centre was led by Josh Karsner’s 18 points.
The Eagles cut the lead down to two with just under three minutes left. Asbury missed their next three shots and turned the ball over on their next four possessions as Centre pushed the lead back to eight with a minute remaining.
Asbury will head to Louisville on Friday and Saturday to take part in the Spalding Classic hosted by Spalding University. The Eagles play Spalding on Friday at 8pm and then will play Webster on Saturday at 1pm.
