Men's Basketball Holds Off Buffalo Charge

Adam DelphWILMORE, Ky. – Adam Delph scored a season-high 26 points and Austin Flannery added 20 as the Eagles held off Milligan (Tenn.) 90-81 in the  Zweifel Classic on Saturday.  Virginia Intermont defeated Cincinnati Christian at the buzzer in the first men’s game of the day, 66-65.

Delph scored 17 of his 26 in the first half as the senior topped 20 for the second time in three games.  He made 10-of-18 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line.  Delph also pulled down eight rebounds and led the team with six assists. 

Flannery followed up Friday’s seven made three-pointer performance with five on Saturday, registering 20 points for the second straight game.  The junior guard knocked down 5-of-7 from downtown and 7-of-10 from the floor. 

The Eagles shot only 47 percent for the game but enjoyed a plus 10 advantage on the glass.  Milligan shot 49 percent from the floor.  Both teams shot over 30 free throws in the game with the Eagles connecting on 25-of-34 and the Buffaloes hitting 20-of-32. 

Asbury (5-1) turned it over 16 times and Milligan gave it up 17 times but the Eagles capitalized on those turnovers, scoring 31 points off turnovers compared to only 11 for Milligan. 

Justin Jones recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  More than half of his points came from the free throw line as Jones knocked down 7-of-13 from the free throw line.  Jones also blocked three shots. 

Asbury will head to Centre College on Wednesday to face the Colonels at 7pm.
