Flannery, Euton Earn KIAC Honors

Austin FlanneryBEREA, Ky. - The KIAC coaches announced on Monday that Asbury sophomore Dakotah Euton and Austin Flannery were named to the 2011-12 KIAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team.  The Eagles finished with a 5-8 league mark and in a four-way-tie for fourth and claimed the seventh seed.  They will play in the semi-finals tonight at 7:45 at Berea against Brescia.

Both Euton and Flannery are making their first appearance on the team.  The Eagles have had two selections on the ten member team in five of the last six years. 

Euton, who transferred from Akron University this year, is second on the team with 14.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.  The 6-8 forward has also blocked 19 shots.  In February Euton has really come on strong, averaging 21.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in eight February games.  He matched a career-high with 26 points in two games against Indiana East this past week, including the Eagles’ KIAC Tournament 1st Round road win on Saturday. 

Dakotah EutonFlannery, who was teammates with Euton at Scott County High School, leads the team with 16.5 points per game.  The 6-3 guard has knocked down .350 percent of his 3-point field goals and .752 percent from the line.  His nine 20-point games lead the Eagles.  Flannery scored the final three points in Asbury’s 96-93 overtime upset win over Indiana East on Saturday. 

The coaches selected Indiana University East guard Marcus Isaac as the Conference Player of the Year and Indiana University Southeast head coach Wiley Brown as the Conference Coach of the Year. Cincinnati Christian University guard Kevin Mitchell was also named Newcomer of the Year.

The Eagles will play Brescia University in the KIAC Semi-finals tonight at 7:45 p.m. at Berea College’s Seabury Center.  Brescia defeated the Eagles in both meetings this year.
