Eagles Lose in Overtime
WILMORE, Ky. – A 15-point first half lead wilted away as Brescia forced overtime with a Bryce Garrett three-pointer with six seconds left in overtime. The Bearcats would go on to win 78-70 in the extra period.
Asbury (7-11, 1-3 KIAC) built a 15-point lead in the first half but let it slip away in the second half as they shot 33 percent in the second half and overtime. They would finish the game under 40 percent and made only six-of-25 from beyond the arc in the game. Brescia (9-11, 2-3) turned around a 27 percent shooting effort in the first half to a 44 percent clip in the second.
In overtime the Eagles held a four point lead, 69-65 with 3:20 to go, but finished the game 0-for-4 from the floor. Brescia hit on all four free throws in the final 28 seconds to seal the win, their second in dramatic fashion over Asbury this year. Hunter Rowe banked in a three with six seconds left to beat the Eagles 63-60 in Owensboro back on January 2.
Marquel Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) led three Eagles in double figures with 18 points. Lee’Vaughn Morris and Austin Flannery each added 11 points. Justin Jones pulled down 13 rebounds, eclipsing 600 for his career and moving within three of fourth place. He also blocked three shots to become the fifth player with 150 in their career, and is three behind fourth place.
Asbury is now 6-3 in overtime games under Shouse and 15-8 all-time. Brescia has won the last three meetings including the last two in the Luce Center.
The Eagles will travel to Alice Lloyd on January 24 before returning home to host Indiana Southeast on January 26.
