Asbury Snaps Skid, Defeats Berea on the Road

Cam RichardsonBEREA, Ky. – Asbury snapped their four-game losing streak with a 80-73 win over Berea on Tuesday night.  The Eagles were led by sophomore Marquel Johnson’s 23 points, 18 coming in the first half.

Johnson led all scorers in the game and connected on six three-pointers in the first half, scoring more than half of the team’s 35 points.  Johnson added six assists and five rebounds.  Austin Flannery scored 14 points, 10 from the free throw line.  Cam Richardson knocked down three threes in scoring 11 points off the bench.

Asbury (7-10, 1-2 KIAC) shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 48 percent in the first half.  The Eagles connected on 12-of-23 three-point attempts and 20-of-24 from the free throw line, including 22 attempts in the second half.  Berea (7-12, 2-2 KIAC) shot only 36.5 percent for the game.

The Mountaineers were led by Derek Davis’ 21 points off the bench.  Davis hit six threes.  Harry Cross recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Justin Jones grabbed 13 rebounds for the Eagles and also scored eight points.  Asbury pulled down 41 rebounds to Berea’s 35.  Dakotah Euton grabbed nine boards and scored seven points.

The Eagles and Mountaineers will meet again on February 7 after the women play at 6 p.m.  Asbury will be in action again on Thursday against Brescia at 8 p.m. in the Luce Center.
