Tigers Drop Eagles on the Road

Nate JohnsonGEORGETOWN, Ky. – An 18-2 run to start the game sent the Eagles reeling to an 89-63 loss to NAIA Div. I powerhouse No. 8 Georgetown on Tuesday night.  Asbury has never beaten Georgetown.

Asbury (2-2) would cut the lead to 10 late in the half but the Tigers would finish the half on a 12-3 run to take a 45-26 lead into the break.  The Eagles would struggle shooting the ball all night long, making only 20-of-54 shots from the floor, 37%.  They would connect on six-of-26 from beyond the three-point line as Georgetown (5-0) shot 51% from the floor and 45.5% from long range.

Nate Johnson led the Eagles with 11 points on the night as Austin Flannery was the only other player in double-figures with 10 points.  Nine other Eagles would score on the night, but only four would make more than one field goal.  Georgetown had five players in double-figures led by Johonne Hamilton’s 18 points.

Asbury would take the battle of the boards 41-38 as Justin Jones led the team with nine.  Georgetown’s Maurice Pearson had a game-high 13 rebounds.  Eleven different Eagles grabbed a rebound in the game, but no one besides Jones would grab even five. 

Georgetown recorded 24 assists on 34 made field goals as Asbury would have only seven assists on 20 made field goals.  Asbury would turn the ball over 24 times.

The Eagles will head to Barbourville, Ky. on Friday and Saturday to take part in Union College’s Bulldog Classic.  Asbury will take on Union Friday at 8 p.m. and Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
