Eagles Fall to Bulldogs on the Road

Cam RichardsonBARBOURVILLE, Ky. – A strong second half could not power the Eagles to a win on the road in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Union (Ky.) College on Friday night, losing to the Bulldogs 89-79.  Asbury will play Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in their second game at the classic.

The Eagles (2-3) shot nearly 53% from the floor in the second half but Union was even better at 58%.  Asbury would hit eight three-pointers in the second half but struggled from the line, two-for-eight after the break.  Union led at half time 37-33.

Five Eagles broke double-figures in the game, as Brock Hurtle led the team with 16 points including knocking down four from beyond the arc.  Cam Richardson scored 14 off the bench on only eight shots and Austin Flannery added 13.  Justin Jones recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Dakotah Euton added 10 points as well.

Union’s Brent Cork scored a game-high 23 points on nine-of-13 shooting.  Four other Bulldogs would reach double-digits in the game.  Union would out-rebound the Eagles 47-33, and would grab 14 offensive rebounds.  Once again the Eagles would give up a large portion of points in the paint, 50 to the Bulldogs as opposed to only 28 for Asbury.  The Eagles have been out-scored in the paint in four of their five games this year.
