Men's Basketball Picked Third by KIAC Coaches
BEREA, Ky. – The 2011-2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason men’s basketball poll was released Friday, October 21st by KIAC officials. Asbury was picked to finish third with 45 points. Indiana Southeast was picked to win the conference with five of eight first place votes and 61 total points.
Asbury finished in a three-way tie for first in the KIAC last season with Indians Southeast and Indiana East, all at 11-2. Asbury would be upset in the first round of the KIAC Tournament at home by Brescia. The Eagles finished with a 20-8 overall record, their first 20-win season since the 2008-09 season. The defending conference tournament champion Indiana University Southeast was selected as the top team, with Indiana East a close second with three first place votes and 57 points. Both The Grenadiers and the Red Wolves advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last season.
Brescia University is projected to finish fourth with 38 points and Berea College is fifth with 34 points. Alice Lloyd College is sixth with 27 points, followed by Cincinnati Christian University (17 points) and St. Louis College of Pharmacy (9 points).
Asbury will tip-off their regular season on Wednesday November 2nd when they host Wilberforce University at 7 p.m. The KIAC Tournament will be held March 25-28.
