Asbury's winning streak snapped
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Indiana Southeast scored 11 straight points after Asbury took their only lead of the game at 2-0, as IUS never looked back in a runaway 84-58 victory, snapping a seven game Eagles winning streak. The Grenadiers take over sole possession of first place at 8-1 in the KIAC, and the Eagles fall back to a tie for second with Indiana East, both at 7-2.
Jazzmarr Ferguson scored all 11 points in that opening flurry, knocking down three straight threes and a runner in the lane. Ferguson, who’s second in the KIAC and 6th nationally in scoring finished with 16 on 6-of-17 shooting, but his damage was done early.
Asbury’s (16-7, 7-2) Morrison, who ranks above Ferguson in scoring, led Asbury with 18 points. Morrison scored 10 of his points from the foul line as he struggled from the field, shooting 3-for-12 overall and 2-of-7 from long range. The Eagles shot 26% for the game and made only 4-of-23 from distance, their lowest field goal percentage of the season.
The Eagles continue to struggle to find an answer for Rick Bodiford who scored game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bodiford did most of his damage at the foul line, hitting on 10-of-15
IUS would score 15 second chance points off of 13 offensive rebounds. The Eagles could only muster 12 points in the paint and five second chance points off of 10 offensive rebounds.
Austin Flannery added 10 points off the bench for the Eagles and Justin Jones pulled down 10 rebounds and scored six points. IUS pulled down 45 total rebounds to only 34 for Asbury.
The Eagles will get back on the floor on Tuesday as they return home to host Cincinnati Christian at 8:00 pm. Asbury beat CCU 84-59 back on January 13th in Cincinnati.
