Eagles win in California

Redding, Calif. – Asbury used a 17-0 run to start the game as they cruised to a 76-62 victory over New Hope Christian College on Thursday night in the Simpson University Classic.  The Eagles will take on the hosts Friday night before finishing off their west coast swing on Saturday against West Coast Bible.

Phillip Morrison and Austin Flannery led the charge with 26 and 17 points respectively.  Both players knocked down three threes as the Eagles (7-5) knocked down 10 on the night.  Morrison helped lead the fast start, scoring seven of the team’s first 10 points.  Flannery scored 14 of his 17 in the first half.  Asbury took a 40-25 lead into the break.

The Eagles pushed their lead out to 24 in the second half and New Hope Christian never cut the deficit under 10, the closest they’d get was 11 late in the second half.  Brock Hurtle and Adam Delph would each knock down two threes, Hurtle finished with 10 and Delph with eight. 

Nate Johnson and Flip Crawford each dished out five assists as the Eagles racked up 21 on the night, only the fourth time this season they’ve topped 20.  Crawford would also lead the team with six rebounds, the Eagles grabbed only 23 on the night as they shot 49% for the game, New Hope Christian would shoot 47%. 

Asbury will take on Simpson University tonight at 10:00 pm eastern with their finale in California coming on January 1st at 3:00 pm eastern.
