Eagles top 100 again, Topple Panthers
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury topped 100 points for the third straight game in a 102-92 win over Greenville (Ill.) College in the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic on Friday night in the Luce Center. Adam Delph led all scorers with 23 points and Phillip Morrison added 21 for the Eagles.
Asbury (5-4) trailed only 17 seconds in the first half at 23-25 before Brock Hurtle put the Eagles back on top with a three. The game was tied four times in the half before Asbury jumped to a 10 point lead. Asbury led 45-38 at the half as Delph scored 10 in the first half.
Greenville (5-2) would fight back in the second half, erasing an early 11 point deficit to take a 54-53 lead with 14:49 remaining. The lead changed hands three times before the Panthers jumped out to a 69-60 lead with 10:41 left. Asbury went on a 14-4 run in the next 3:34 as Delph scored nine of his 13 second half points during that run.
The Eagles would push their lead out to double digits at 85-75 as Morrison scored seven of 11 Asbury points. The lead would grow to as much as 13 as Greenville started to foul to extend the game. Asbury would hit 9-of-12 free throws in the final two minutes to help seal the game.
Flip Crawford added his third straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds including seven offensive. Crawford currently ranks 6th in NAIA DII with 4.5 offensive rebounds per game. Crawford added four assists, three steals, one block, and two big dunks on Friday.
The Eagles shot 53% from the floor and connected on 9-of-22 from long range. Asbury made 19-of-25 from the free throw line. Nate Johnson added 14 points and hit a career high three threes. Jamal Morris and Austin Flanner added 10 and 11 points off the bench for the Eagles. Flannery led the team with five assists as the Eagles dished out 23 assists on 37 made field goals.
Asbury won the battle on the boards 41-34. Delph added nine boards to his 23 points and also had four assists. Greenville was led on the night by Obinna Agomo’s 20 points and seven rebounds. The Panthers shot 47% from the floor but struggled from outside, connecting on only 4-of-16 from long range.
Asbury will take on Ohio Christian at 6:00 pm tomorrow to close out the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic. Greenville will take on Union College (Ky.) at 2:00 pm. Ohio Christian beat Union 93-89 earlier in the day on Friday.
