Morehead overpowers Asbury
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Asbury led for most of the first 15 minutes but Morehead outscored the Eagles 69-27 the rest of the way for a 90-49 win. Freshman Austin Flannery knocked down three threes as he led the Eagles with 15 points in the exhibition contest.
Asbury knocked down six threes in each half but couldn’t do much else as they were only 4-for-22 from inside the arc. The Eagles got out to 10-2 lead in the first six minutes and held the lead for the first 9:13 before MSU took a 15-14 advantage. The lead would change hands seven times in the first half before MSU took it for good with 4:13 left at 23-22.
Adam Delph scored 10 points and was the only other Eagle in double figures. Delph knocked down three threes and had four steals. Morehead was led by potential NCAA All-American Kenneth Faried who scored a game high 21 points. Faried also pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out three assists, and blocked four shots.
The Eagles will play two other exhibition games this season against NCAA Division I Samford on December 18th and against NCAA Div. II Kentucky Wesleyan College on November 18th.
Asbury will open their home slate on Saturday as they host Tennessee Wesleyan at 4:00 pm. TWC won the season opener for both schools on October 31st by 42 points.
