Asbury Signs Kochendoerfer

Wilmore, Ky. – Asbury Men’s Basketball Coach Will Shouse has announced the signing of Tim Kochendoerfer for the 2010-11 season.  Kochendoerfer is from Franklin Furnace, Ohio and spent three years on the Ironton High School varsity team.

Kochendoerfer will join the Eagles for the 2010-11 season.A 6-3 guard, Kochendoerfer averaged 20.4 points per game as a senior for the Tigers and was the Associated Press District 13 Co-Player of the Year and the Coaches District 13 Player of the Year.  He was a first team selection by the AP and the Coaches.

As a guard Kochendoerfer has the ability to get inside and rebound the basketball, he averaged 7.2 a game last year.  He also creates match-up problems on the perimeter with his ability to shoot from long range as he knocked down 38% of his three point attempts.

Both of those qualities helped him stand out to Coach Shouse, “He’s a shooter and a scorer and he rebounds well for a guard. With the teams we play he can create match-up problems. He can do a lot of things. That’s what makes him so dangerous.”

Kochendoerfer helped lead the Tigers to a 21-4 record and won the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League (SEOAL) and reached the Regional Finals.  He was also named SEOAL First Team and Player of the  Year.  The Associated Press also named him to the All-Ohio Second Team in Division III.

Kochendoerfer had interest from Shawnee State, Rio Grande, Kentucky Christian and Marietta, but picked Asbury.
