Jones, Eagles Soar Past Owls

Berea, Ky. - Justin Jones (Hazard, Ky.) led four Eagles in double figures as Asbury rolled over the Owls of Warren Wilson College 100-65 in the Roland Wierwille Classic at Berea College.  Jones notched career highs with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Asbury (8-3) bounced back after a surprising loss to Temple Baptist on Friday night and jumped all over Warren Wilson from the get go Saturday, taking a 49-34 halftime lead.  The Eagles shot much better from three point range, knocking down 15-of-41 from downtown.  Brock Hurtle (North Vernon, Ind.) hit a career high six treys and finished with 20 points off the bench. 

Leading scorer Phillip Morrison (Louisville, Ky.) finished with 18 points on seven-of-17 shooting, he also hit three threes.  Cory Britt (Cynthiana, Ky.) scored 16 points and had a team best six assists, Morrison also had five assists.

Asbury shot 46% from the floor compared to 42% for the Owls but the Eagles took 27 more shots thanks in large part to 23 Warren Wilson turnovers.  Asbury had 15 steals led by Justin Jones' four.  The Eagles also pulled down 20 offensive rebounds, and won the battle on the boards 44-41. 

Starting forward Brian Johnson did not play due to an ankle injury, and senior Daniel Drury made his first start of the season scoring six points on two three-pointers.

Asbury's next game will be a clash with NAIA Division I Georgetown College in Georgetown on Wednesday December 9th at 7:30 pm.  The Tigers were ranked #7 in the NAIA pre-season poll.
