Morrison Leads Eagles Past Cobras

Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury controlled the game from the tip to the final horn, beating Virginia Intermont 79-57 in the 14th Annual Zweifel Classic.  The Eagles jumped on the Cobras from the beginning as Phillip Morrison hit a three on the opening possession, a lead Asbury would never relinquish.

Asbury (1-1) was led for the second straight night by Morrison (Louisville, Ky.) who scored 24 one night after scoring 25.  Against the Cobras, Morrison was nearly perfect, hitting nine-of-11 from the field including three-of-four from three and all three free throws.  Morrison also led the team with four assists.

Two freshman also had big games for the Eagles, Justin Jones (Hazard, Ky.) and Adam Delph (Louisville, Ky.)  Jones a 6-7 post player used his athleticism and strength to pull down a game high 15 rebounds and swat four shots.  He also contributed four steals and seven points including hitting five-of-six from the charity stripe.  Delph who struggled after picking up two early fouls on Friday, came out in attack mode on Saturday pouring in 19 points and hitting two threes and all five free throws. 

Brian Johnson was also in double figures with 13 points and tied Morrison for the team lead with four assists.  Asbury had eight players score and five different players knock down a three.  Their defense forced 16 steals and stole 11 passes and blocked five shots.

Asbury will play an exhibition game against Morehead State University on Monday November 9th at 7:30 pm.  The Eagles will return home on Tuesday November 10th to host Free Will Baptist at 6:00 pm, the women will follow against Union College at 8:00 pm.
