Morrison Leads Charge as Eagles Douse Flames
Wilmore, Ky. - Phillip Morrison led the Eagles with 27 points as the Eagles pulled away from Free Will Baptist in the second half and cruised to a 95-73 victory Tuesday night in the Luce Center.
Morrison (Louisville, Ky.) hit four threes on the night and 11-of-16 from the floor. He also led the team with six assists and pulled down five rebounds. Cory Britt (Cynthiana, Ky.) added 23 points on nine-of-17 shooting, and Brian Johnson (Wilmore, Ky.) joined him in double figures with 19.
The Eagles fell behind early but went on a run at the end of the first half to lead by nine at the break. Asbury then piled on in the second half scoring 53 points and taking the lead to 28 at its climax. Asbury only turned the ball over eight times and forced the Flames into 17 turnovers. The Eagles won the battle on the boards with 53 compared to 46 for Free Will Baptist.
Johnson had a double-double with 12 rebounds which led the team and Justin Jones kept up his early season work on the boards with 10 of his own. Jones has pulled down double-digit rebounds in back to back games, after he had 15 on Saturday against Virginia Intermont.
Morrison has led the team in scoring all three games this season and had his biggest output against the Flames tonight. He is averaging over 25 points per game in his three games this season.
Asbury will head to Ohio this weekend, first taking on Mount Vernon Nazarene College on Friday at 8:00 pm then making the short trip to Wilberforce on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
