Eagles Hold Off Knights

WILMORE, Ky. - Asbury held off Southern Virginia 87-84 in a fast paced, back and forth game in the second game of the Christian College Classic on Friday night in the Luce Center.  There were nine ties and 18 lead changes in game, with the final one coming as Adam Delph (Louisville, Ky.) hit a free throw with 3:53 remaining.Men's Basketball

Phillip Morrison (Louisville, Ky.) led the Eagles for the sixth time in seven games with 27 points.  This is the fifth time Morrison has scored more than 20 points.  He was nine-of-14 from the floor and eight-of- nine from the free throw line including a perfect four-of-four down the stretch to preserve the win.  Cory Britt (Cynthiana, Ky.) scored 17 and Delph added 16. 

Asbury (5-2) came into the game only shooting only 60% from the free throw line but hit on 19-of-26 (73%) on Friday night.  The Eagles shot 51% from the floor and 35% (8-23) from three.  Southern Virginia went to the line 22 times and hit on 15.  They shot 46% from the floor and connected on seven-of-23 from beyond the three point line. 

Justin Jones (Hazard, Ky.) had two big dunks in the opening minutes and then several big blocks later in the first half.  The freshman forward finished the game with six points, a team high seven rebounds, five blocks, and four steals.

Cory Evans led Southern Virginia (3-2) with 27 points and a team high eight rebounds, and Ade Swann had 13 points and 10 assists.

Cincinnati Christian beat Temple Baptist in the first game of the Christian College Classic 110-80.  CCU will play Southern Virginia at 2:00 pm on Saturday and Asbury will take on the Rams from Temple Baptist.
