Eagles Topple Mighty Oaks

Oakland City, IN---The Asbury College Eagles earned their best finish at the NCCAA Tournament claiming 5th place after defeating the tournament hosts Oakland City University 103-99 Saturday afternoon.

Asbury (21-13) started all three seniors in their final collegiate game, and the Eagles got a huge game from departing guard Michael Spann.  Spann led his hometown team with 37 points on 13-of-25 shooting including hitting seven from 3-point range.  Fellow seniors John Ensign and Patrick Crouse added 13 and 11 points respectively in their final game.  Sophomore Phillip Morrison added 18 points off the bench and knocked down four 3-pointers.

The Eagles again raced out to a halftime lead for the third time in the tournament at 56-41, and again Asbury almost blew the lead.  The Mighty Oaks put up 58 points in the second half and nearly completed the improbable comeback as Asbury could not score for the final 3:42.

Spann led the team with six assists and three steals in his final game.  Asbury was out-rebounded by 11 but Brian Johnson pulled down a team-high seven boards and also added nine points.
